No way....

Much to my delight, yesterday I recieved in the mail three hanks of Sundara custom-dyed merino/silk that I ordered about 7 weeks ago, hoping to receive it in time to produce a very special gift for a very special person for the holidays. It is more beautiful and soft than I'd hoped. Too bad I won't be able to get the intended item knitted up in time for the 25th...

This morning I came downstairs to find my children oblivous to the chewing of each of those three skeins by my dogs. I guess the smell of angora goat and silk was just too tantalizing for the canines... I'm heartbroken. I can salvage most of the yarn but its going to be a LOT of work to get it wound properly for working.

This comes after yesterday's romp through the house wherein Noodle liberated and chewed up a basket full of items---he seems to love ziploc bags so anything stored therein becomes collateral damage. The inventory was: a bag full of holiday-colored votive candles, a bag full of AA batteries, a bag full of river rocks, a bag full of lagniappe we use for seasonal decorations around the house. The only "non-bagged" item was a tube of Welder glue... oh, that it would have sealed his little chomper shut for a bit...

He's clearly a dog who needs a job. He's bored and looking for something to do. Too bad he can't just figure out which things are acceptable and which ones not...

I'm still pissed about my merino/silk, though.

Blog Habit
I love blogs. I love blogs about politics, knitting, music and other stuff. What I like best are blogs that reflect all of the thinking of a person: your music, your books, your rants at the media (this what makes me love Lyman's, by the way). If you have a blog that I read at all, its a sure bet I've read all the blogs in your favorites list and maybe even posted on them. Its like having brief little chats with people I wouldn't ordinarily be able to chat with. Two stand out and I found both from surfing off of Lyman's blog: Drew feels like an old friend, a sweet little brother. Lyman also has a link to Carrie's sister's Agoraphobia blog but she also has a blog about books called Well Read. It has become a must-read for me. She has great taste in literature and she offers great insight and reflection on what she's read. If you love a great book and a sharp mind, I'd encourage you to check it out.

I wish I read more books. I do love to read but I often must choose between reading or knitting (or reading about knitting/music) so I mostly knit. I do read every night at bedtime. With so few hours to devote to it, I like to ensure that I won't make a bad choice. I often read what Rob has finished (he reads about 3 novels a month) and I can see that Kelly will also provide great suggestions. I'm trying to increase my "reading" by listening to audiobooks while I knit. I love that but its often hard to do in a busy room.

So this is a long way of saying: if you see me commenting on all your favorite blogs, its not that I'm stalking you. Its just that I love a good blog break and I'm always looking for something new.

hi kathy, seems you never tried audiobooks - you'll end up in knitter's heaven - doing 2 great things at the same time...! i'll be glad to help you out if you want to give it a try. i love mysteries, that's a big chunk of my collection plus some harry potter and the COMPLETE series of unfortunate events... time for a coffee chat i guess - finally..:-) dag

"Like an old friend, a sweet little brother." I'm touched.

I do the same with blog lists (except for Nikki's because she has waaaay too many for me to try to get involved with). Queer Joe Knits was one of the sites where I found the "X Things About Me." Where did the link to his site go?

Seeing Kelly's, Jason's, and Lyman's posts recently about books I feel like I'm not reading enough either. Of course, I'm 6 months behind on my Esquire so why should I think I could read a book. :-) I tried the audiobooks for awhile and it just wasn't the same. Good, but not the same.

I agree--- Last night I settled into bed with knitting and a new audiobook on my iPod. I love it, it was divine. When I was ready to go to sleep, I found myself wanting a little book with soft music in the background... ay.

QJ's blog has been boring me a little lately and I find a lot of his crowd EXTREMELY harsh. I've quit him for a while. I've found other gay knitters to gawk at! Once I get a good feel for their complete universe, I'll put them over there.

I'm hoping someone who de-lurked today, Dagmar, will soon launch her blog and I'll have it to add.
