Let's Roomba!

A little bitty robot is running around my house, sucking up dirt. Oh, Roomba! I love you! More amusing than the dogs reaction to it is Lindsay's---she wants to act like she's not freaked out, but she is!

The Big Evil
I saw yesterday that Mr. Trent Lott (R, Mississippi) plans to resign from the Senate. Like, he quits. After 35 years. What kind of evil wimpiness is this? The reasons he cited include vagaries such as, "I just want to do something else...." and "financial comitments" made before Katrina. Whatever. You'll have a hard time convincing me its not about leveraging what ever capital a Republican senator might still have before the crash of the 2008 elections decimate the Republican party. Rumors a'plenty that he'll take on a lobbying position---'scuse me? How's that different from what he's been doing? Ooopps! Did I type that out loud? I've always been more concerned about the damage Lott might do than his 90's era bad-guy Senator friends, because he was so much more subtle and oozed that nasty, snake-like southern gentleman charm--disguising his evil intent and the white robe in his closet. 'Buh-bye, Mr. Lott.

And then, a little blurb this morning that Bush's economic adviser is standing down. hee hee. Tell me: has there ever been a US President with so much staff turnover? Its really very remarkable. Anyway, like rats from a sinking ship these guys. I often think of them like those cicadas who appear once every 17 years...or like Voldemort, lying low and sucking up energy from willing hosts until ready to re-surface and wreak havoc...

Knitting

Dagmar's Traveler's Stockings are off in the mail. After washing and blocking they are even more lovely, so soft. And I really love the texture in the cuff.

Anna's hoodie is coming along REALLY well. I love the neckline and made a tiny modification to the pattern. Basically, the ribbing at the opening was preceded by a decrease until the proper width was arrived at. The pattern was written to simply continue the stockinette (smooth fabric of the sweater) and ribbing until desired width. But I really liked the slight ridge produced by the decreases so I knit up to two stitches before the ribbing, made a raised bar increase followed immediately by the decrease (producing the pretty ridge) for a net gain of -0- stitches and then worked the ribbing. It worked nicely! Very pretty. So I'll be on to the sleeves, pocket and hood soon enough. This has gone pretty quickly and Sierra is such a lovely fiber to work with and to wear; pleasing project.

More sock yarn! Who's surprised? I can't keep my hands off the stuff! Ravelry is to blame as I saw some discussions on very fine gauge sock yarns and this Schaeffer Anne was cited pretty consistently; Schaeffer yarn is gorgeous stuff. I've worked their Laurel for Milo's Wavy-Gravy bolero and hat, my tunic-length vest, Anna's Fruit-Loop sweater and I do believe the wool blend I used for Haley's sweater was also a Schaeffer product. Their colors are just delightful and they have a really nice line of fiber mixes and gauges.

Holiday stuff
Plans are laid and preparation well underway for Mullen Movie Night 2007. Next year will be the last for our whole group as D. will be graduating in 2009...I can't believe its so...these kids just grow up so fast.

Shopping for gifts is surprisingly nearly finished. Very great stuff in store for everyone and I can hardly wait to receive everyone's reactions---'tis truly better to give than receive; this is the most conclusive sign of adulthood...

We're thinking of finally making the leap to two trees in the house. I think we really need to but I'm pretty sure I'd be nearly killed by my evergreen allergies. We'll see! How 'bout you guys? Getting things done?

I've heard of people becoming quite attached to their rumbas. Does yours have a name?

I brought along my crochet hook and a skein on the train and miraculously went through the whole thing and made half a hat in one trip! Also amazed the young man sitting next to me who stared at me the whole time. Ah, yarn...

Nice to meet you via Ravelry. I see that we share some opinions on politics as well as knitting!

well, darling, I had no idea you had cold feet. Consider yourself on the list---it moves slowly but worth the wait! What size are your tootsies, baby girl?

K--me and the girls are holding off on the name to get a better sense of his personality. But it is OH SO AMAZING---this much we already know!

Very cool that you made great progress on your hat! When Ravelry comes out of beta, I'll bet you'll get all fired up re: crocheting!

A roomba! I am jealous! I almost bought a scooba last week for my kitchen floor. Still thinking about both! Since Bailey is scared of Sadie already, I can only imagine his reaction to something else loud that moves!

Holiday prep not really underway here, although since it starts the 4th, I better get a move on it!!!

For you, Caddy Jean, absolutely. Did I mention not to hold your breath? But definitely on the list---way near the top, too!
