Morning Haiku

the green goddess smiles,
beckoning at dawn, warming
every new day

marietta: yeah, who would think that writing 17 syllables would be challenging? I'm not really satisfied with the haiku homage to Starbuck's but I'll keep working on other stuff...

Melissa: you're so sweet to remember. I think it was Special K and I'll send her a pm as well. The wedding in Indy looked gorgeous!!!

This is where I need an English major to help me. Because when I read your haiku, I read it as 6-7-4 and K's as 5-6-5. I read "smiles" as a two syllable word and "every" also as a two and not three as it would need to be in your poem.

Can regional dialect differences affect the legitimacy of a haiku poem? Or does the artistic intent override the "official" pronunciation.

Haiku writing stumped.
Too much engineer to beat.
Hope to get it soon.

smiles is 1
e ve ry is 3

My poetic license is probably the most valuable certification I carry...

Hmmm. I honestly thought K's second line had 7 till just now. I guess we'd have to give her a mic to hear how those syllables roll on out...

I first read your haiku on my blackberry and the hard returns were all screwed up; I just now realized its a haiku too! I like it!

Ooops! My second line is 6 - let's say "Is the coffee ready yet?" It goes 5/7/5, right?
